Athletics Wrap Up!

Interschool & SSSA Athletics Wrap Up!

As usual, we had a busy term 1 in athletics with Naracoorte High School competing in the South East Zone Competition and also taking a team to the city for the SSSA Track & Field Championships.

The Interschool South East Athletics Carnival was held at Tenison Woods College on March 20th, where we competed against eight other schools from the South East. It was an incredible day, with 41 personal bests compared to our sports day, along with 12 first place finishes, 14 second place finishes, and 18 third place finishes. Overall, we secured 2nd place in the Handicap Trophy. Watch out for next year…we’re aiming to take the top spot! Two record breakers were Grace Law, who broke the U13 girls high jump record, and Blake East in the open male hurdles.

The Adelaide Track & Field Championships were held at the beautiful SA Athletics Stadium on April 4th, providing an amazing opportunity for our students to compete at such a fantastic facility.

A standout highlight was our TEAM! Almost every member maxed out on events, and for the relays, we had only three students sitting in the stands, in contrast to other schools, where half their team (size of our entire team) was seated. Staff from other schools were amazed by the dedication and effort our students showed, bringing immense credit to Naracoorte High School.

Congratulations to Will Ellis, Blake East, Grace Law, Libby Pretlove, Gus Sambell, Rueben Woolley, Damon Grigg, Matthew Maney, Paige Rasheed, Maddison Bellman, Darcy duRand, Quentin Mitchell, Amelia Frick, Cooper Foale, Georgie Midwinter, Eliza Ward, Sam Hayes, Maggie McLean, Elise Barker, Eva Tierney and Remi Brown for their outstanding individual performances in both Interschool and Adelaide Athletics for 2024.
