Top 3 finish at the School Sport SA Hockey Finals!

Naracoorte High School’s Senior Mixed Hockey Team travelled to Adelaide in Week 7 and competed in the Finals of the School Sport SA Hockey competition.

Naracoorte started the day with an early game against Faith. We had a tough, back to back game with many good drives up the mid field and a few short corners with no advances, causing a nil all draw.

The second game was quite defensive on
Naracoorte’s behalf, causing many of our players to tire but still put in great leads and free hits, with the score finishing 3-0 Pembroke’s way.

Later in the day we played Samaritans. Our team was switched on doing great passes with connections into the attacking circle. Although unable to capitalise on all of our scoring opportunities, Naracoorte still managed to pull through with a 1-0 win.

As the rain came around, so did finals! Naracoorte finished 2nd on the ladder in our pool and went on to play Trinity College in the cross over match.

Trinity challenged our perseverance causing us to work really hard. Many penalty corners were given at both ends but Trinity finished the game with great field goals winning 2-0.

After losing in the Semi Finals, Naracoorte had the chance to play off for 3rd place against Mount Carmel. Naracoorte started the game slowly but the second half saw us become more active in our attack, but unable to convert in goals. As the final whistle was blown both teams were nervous and excited, as the nil all draw meant shootouts!

Both teams did exceptionally well with Naracoorte’s goalkeeper stopping numerous shots. Even though our players were challenged, we managed to win the shootouts 4-2 and take out third place overall.
