Mia was proud to be selected as one of 20 students across South Australia to take part in the prestigious Rural Youth Ambassador Program.
The program gives rural students a voice in shaping the future of education, and it’s been an incredible opportunity for me to grow as a leader and build my confidence.
As an ambassador, I’ve attended multiple forums and meetings with government ministers, education leaders, and key decision-makers. One of our main goals has been to improve the communication between schools and students, ensuring students are informed about the opportunities offered by the school, and across the state. We are also working on some projects, including promoting rural towns by creating professional videos and gift packs to encourage teachers to consider rural placements.
Additionally, we are expanding programs that attract university students to rural schools for placements. Improving mental health support is being focused on, by finding better ways to support students’ wellbeing in our communities. Lastly, we are working towards increasing subject access, by ensuring all students have the opportunity to study the subjects they are passionate about, whether this is through face to face, local delivery or open access.
Overall, this experience has helped me grow in so many ways. I’ve learned to speak up, step out of my comfort zone, and collaborate with others to create real change.
